My goal when I go to a restaurant more than once is to try something new every time. I figure if the first meal I had was good enough to make me want to come back, then there must be other good things on the menu! That was my strategy with Chef Luis Bruno’s downtown restaurant Adobo.
The first time I went to Adobo, I got the Salmon Burger ($10 with a side) with the Cuban Black Bean Soup. Delicious. The burger comes with caper-dill mayo that is so light and flavorful and goes perfectly with the salmon.
The second time I got the Black Bean Veggie Burger ($9 with a side) with the Louie Tabboulie. Awesome. The Louie Tabboulie was different than I expected (it’s actually a quinoa dish), and it was great!
The third time, I decided to venture out and get the Vietnamese Sandwich with Jerk Chicken ($10 with a side)… and that’s where my streak ended. It was perfect. Since then, I haven’t been able to order anything but the Vietnamese Sandwich.
The chicken has a great flavor, but doesn’t overwhelm the other ingredients. The vegetables are fresh and light and the carrot gives a great crunch. The sandwich comes with roasted garlic mayo, but you will also be given soy sauce and Sriracha on the side. Go ahead and put both of them on the sandwich—it’s a killer combination. Even the baguette they use is divine!
While you’re at it, don’t forget to order the Cuban Black Bean Soup as your side. Before I tried this soup, I had no idea that black beans could taste so good. It has a great depth of flavor and is very filling. If you like spice, ask for the house made hot sauce and stir that into your soup!
